An almost impossible question.
In general I like the engine, it is reasonably easy to monitor and debug engine
level issues (onstat is your friend).
The traditional client API (ESQL/C) is horrid, and like every other RDBMS there
are some really dumb things that they do. One example is as a client you can't
get access to the execution plan, as it is placed either on the server, or I
think with one of the newer releases you can specify a directory. If you are a
remote client connecting via say JDBC you can't get the info. (Sybase reports it
back in the SQLWarning, and with Oracle you can specify a table to put the plan
into)
As far as JDBC Drivers, you have to check out Weblogic's Type 4 (pure Java)
driver. We have been working with Informix and Java/JDBC connectivity for the
last two and a half years, this is the first driver that works well.
Good luck,
