Sometimes they are faster. If it realy is your ODBC driver that is slow you might want to check out the OpenLink drivers (the server based ones, not the "Lite" version). Go to http://www.openlinksw.com for a free test download. There is no (good) way to use anything but ODBC for conectivity from Visual Basic to Informix databases. However it may also be the way you use ODBC in Visual Basic. There are tremendous differences depending on what access method you use. Some 3 to 6 months ago there where several articles in different issues of Visual Basic Programmers Journal about this. You should check those out. (It would be realy hard to do much good in VB without this magazine.) There is also lots of information on this at the Microsoft site. Here is one reference found with their search engine: http://www.microsoft.com/vbasic/techinfo/choosing.htm Nils.Myklebust@idg.no NM Data AS, P.O.Box 9090 Gronland, N-0133 Oslo, Norway My opinions are those of my company The Informix FAQ is at http://www.iiug.org
