Same here. As a long time detractor of DG for their awful versions of Unix, they've finally it right; their current DG/UX is a very clean version of SVR4, they seem to have a good tech support staff, be responsive, etc. Make sure you check into their Clariion RAID array. You can also get these machines with just about dual everything (power supplies, scsi cards, etc.). They also have an on-board telnet gimmick (a "VTC" board) that offloads the telnet processing from the CPU. They have various multi-processor boxes. The only hardware we didn't get from DG were the tape drives (9-track, dat, exabyte) as DG was waaaay too expensive on those, for some odd reason; very reasonable on everything else. >I hope, that this might help you. Heh, yeah, good luck getting an auto company to respond to an RFP when you want to buy a car! >>Also, I would like recommendations on backup schemes. If I will >>be purchasing a database server, I wil want to purchase the backup >>devices etc. Re hardware, I'd go exabyte over dat. DG does have a "tape array" similar to the disk array, also called a Clariion I believe. -- Andrew Burt aburt@du.edu "But if he was dying he wouldn't bother to carve "Aaaaargh", he'd just say it."
