Shadow password on Linux

Greetings! This may be soley a Linux question but here it is: I recently changed the informix user id on my linux box which has informix IDS 9.21 installed onit. When I try to bring up informix via the start up using "onmonitor' I get "WARNING: Network Down **--Quiescent" on the status line. The $INFORMIXDIR/online.log file gives the following information: 10:51:43 Informix Dynamic Server 2000 Initialized -- Complete DiskInitialized. 10:51:43 Checkpoint Completed: duration was 0 seconds. 10:51:43 Checkpoint loguniq 1, logpos 0xc0 10:51:43 Dataskip is now OFF for all dbspaces 10:51:43 Quiescent Mode 10:51:58 Get Shadow Password for user [informix] failed! 10:51:58 Check for password aging/account lock-out. 10:51:58 listener-thread: err = -951: oserr = 0: errstr = informix:Incorrect p assword or user informix is not known on the database server. I had to change the "user id" for the informix because I wanted to use that ID for a dfferent user. I had changed all the ownership and so forth in the informix directory. I even went as far as reinstalling informix from scratch. Has anyone attempted this "user id" change before? From the log above, it seems that the problem is releated to the shadow password file. How did you change the userid - just change the passwd file, if yes then you will need to re-generate the shadow file.
