Managing a TEXT variable

Hi I'm try to use the TEXT datatype following the examples in the demo of 4gl for use TEXT, VARCHAR and BLOB datatype. Its work fine but i need assign part of a text variable to a char variable (i.e. for show a header of the text) or some other manipulation. Someone can help me?
