How to use NVL functionality on a TEXT column

I have a query where I'm trying to use NVL functionality on a TEXT column but getting error since NVL is not allowed on a TEXT column: select NVL(text_col,'') from tab ==> gives error "Blobs are not allowed in this expression" I tried CASE to achieve this, still getting same error: select CASE when text_col is NULL then '' else text_col END from tab. Appreciate any suggestions. thanks,
