RE: Informix 7.23 via NT and Unix security?

It sounds as thought what you need is "NIS" (Network Information System). This is a network service that allows multiple UNIX machines to share configuration files. Unfortunately, NIS can become a major security hole. NIS+, (which is only available on Solaris last time I looked) solves these problems. I believe NIS+ has some facility for password aging, but I am not sure. Patrick -- J. Has anyone come up with a mechanism whereby they offer their users the ability to synchronize their Informix passwords across multiple servers? We are running Informix 7.23 on both Sequent and Sun Unix machines. We use PowerBuilder 6.0 Enterprise for our frontend. Since the Informix connection does not validate to see if the password has expired (only if it is the currently good password), we would like some easy way to either determine if the user's UNIX password on each server is expired or to force the user to change their password on a periodic basis. Right now, when the user enters their userid and password, our 'security' object makes all the necessary database connections for them. If it detects an invalid userid or invalid password message, it presents a response window for the user to re-enter their userid or password for the server having the problem. This usually happens if the user has some occasion to actually log into one of the unix machines where the Unix security requires them to change their expired passwords at login time. This causes their passwords on the different servers to be different. I have heard from the Unix administrators that they are installing CA-UniCenter. Would there be some way to use it to synchronized them (and how)?
