No, it doesn't. Indeed, one of its many uses is to relocate a table from one dbspace into another. According to the 5.00 manual beside me, if you do not specify a dbspace, the table ends up in the root dbspace. Blobspace blobs can be relocated into a new dbspace if required, and indexes can be renamed.
