I want to avoid the case where three years down the track the server gets replaced, Informix reinstalled, and noone can figure out why this 4gl no longer works because the documentation on the stored procedure has been lost over the years. A pure SQL soloution also apeals because we are looking at moving to Postgres for our modest DB needs and the stored procedure may not be as portable as official standards based SQL.
