David If you configure Informix to talk to the loopback driver then you will never be able to see the engine outside the server on which Informix is running because it is not going out on the network. With Windows if you disconnect the network cable then the network is not functioning and windows effectively disables the network interface. If Informix is using that interface then it is also disabled. On this platform this is how the OS behaves when you break the network.
