User authentication and database connection with Informix SE 7.20 on Windows 95
Posted in 1997
Hi,
uses to work with Informix SE and Online on Unix systems, i'm really
getting confused with some features of the Windows versions.
I've installed the Informix SE 7.20 and ESQL/C 7.20 developers
versions on my PC.
I created to users with the ipasswd utility. A user "informix" with
home directory d:\\informix\\users\\informix and "js" with home directory
in d:\\informix\\users\\js. All the directories exists. There are
passwords for these two users.
With the SetNet utility, i've created a default server
local bbs-pc07 seipcpip sqlexec
and a corresponding entry in the sqlhosts file.
Also i've set a host
bbs-pc07 js "ask password"
I also defined DBPATH to be d:\\informix\\users\\informix
First question:
When i'm starting the dbaccess utililty and made a connection to the
"local" server, it lasts very long. About 45 seconds until i get the
"select database dialog".
Any reason why? We had also an older version of SE running on Windows
3.11 and that was much faster.
Second question:
Which user does dbaccess assume when started? There was no dialog when
i'm starting the utility.
Third question:
All databases are created be default in d:\\informix\\bin. Why? When i
look into sysusers, it seems as if "informix" has created the
database. But in this case, why isn't the database created in the user
directory for informix ?
When i moved the database to d:\\informix\\users\\informix, it wasn't
found there regardless the settings of DBPATH, which points to this
directory.
Fourth question:
I ported an ESQL/C application from an unix environment to Windows.
The application just uses START DATABASE. What user will be used, when
there is no "ilogin like" dialog at startup?
The user i defined in the "host" part of setnet??
I hope you can help me with some answers.
Greetings, Joerg
