Fred, Once you have converted a database from 2.1 to 5.x, it cannot be used by 2.1. > On a SCO Unix 3.2 we have the following configuration : > an Informix SE 2.10 kernel > an accounting application created with 4GL 2.xx (I have no access to the > source code of this application) > and of course a database (mybase.dbs) created with the kernel 2.10 > > We tried to access this database (mybase.dbs) from an application created > with esql/c 4.xx or 5.xx over the 2.10 kernel, and of course we got an error > message (a tool 4 or 5 is not compatible with a kernel 2) > My question is how to be able to access to the database (in read only mode) > from the application developped with esql/c 4 or 5 and also from the > accounting application developped with 4GL release 2.xx ? > Is it possible ? > Can I install a kernel release 5 and still used a 4GL release 2.xx tool over > this kernel? I have 2.1 and 5.X on the same machine. When you access a 2.1 database with 5.X the system tables get updated and its no longer usable with 2.1. Then when I try to access it again with 2.1 the error message is no select permission. When I try to access a 5.X database with 2.1 the error message is something about invalid ISAM format.
