Visual Basic with Informix Online This will at least survive, but it's mostly good for thick clients. It's not well sutied to server side programming and is in that case limited to Windows NT only on the server. It's easy to develop good looking applications as long as a thick client system is ok for you. >3. MS Access (as a front-end) with Informix-Online Works fine as an ad hoc tool and some types of reporting. Wouldn't even dream of using it for general application development if you ever antisipate a need for large number of users or otherwise a little more than run of the mill simple applications. >4. other ClientServer-programming-tools You haven't even mentioned Java. Take a look at IBM's Visual Age for Java development tools and you will see the new world coming about. If you think you have heard too much hype about Java and too little true solutions you are right. However few relize that it's only within the last 6 month Java has realy become usable for general application development projects. Take another look. As you allready have Informix 4GL applications it might also be a good idea to look at Dynamic 4GL for some stopgap solutions. > >What are the experiences with various ODBC, OLEDB drivers for this setup >(fi. known limitations). >What about performence ? The one and only ODBC driver and also among the best JDBC drivers are from OpenLink software.
