Hi, I have checked the manuals about where I can set the OPT_GOAL parameter. Below are the IBM docs, but they do not specify if I can set the OPT_GOAL in the 4gl code. Can anyone confirm if I can set this in the 4gl code? If I must do this at the session/user level, I assume this would work on hp-ux: export OPT_GOAL=ALL_ROWS Thanks in advance, Doug How do I specify performance goals for the query optimizer? A: The default behavior is for the optimizer to choose query plans that optimize the total query time. Informix users can specify user-response-time optimization at several different levels: At the server level: Set the OPT_GOAL configuration parameter to 0 for user-response-time optimization. Set it to -1 for total-query-time optimization. At the user level: The OPT_GOAL environment variable can be set before the user application starts. Set it to 0 for user-response-time optimization, -1 for total-query-time optimization.
I can't immediately think of a reason why the value ALL_ROWS would work - I would guess that it would be the same as 0 but that's just a guess. However, if you use "export OPT_GOAL=0", then it should work OK with I4GL - subject to having a sufficiently recent version of I4GL (not, for example, 6.0x). -- Jonathan Leffler (jleffler@us.ibm.com) STSM, Informix Database Engineering, IBM Data Management 4100 Bohannon Drive, Menlo Park, CA 94025 Tel: +1 650-926-6921 Tie-Line: 630-6921 "I don't suffer from insanity; I enjoy every minute of it!" |---------+----------------------------> | | "Doug Fossmeyer" | | | <dfossmeyer@gmx.n| | | et> | | | Sent by: | | | forum.subscriber@| | | iiug.org | | | | | | | | | 07/01/2003 09:39 | | | AM | | | | |---------+----------------------------> >------------------------------------------------------------------------------- --------------------------------------------------------------| | | | To: ids@iiug.org | | cc: | | Subject: OPT_GOAL setting at 4gl level [1463] | | | >------------------------------------------------------------------------------- --------------------------------------------------------------| Hi, I have checked the manuals about where I can set the OPT_GOAL parameter.
