I get an error -908 In the services on the win 98 PC is a line : demo_se 6120/tcp This line is also on the linux machine How can i verify the server is running onsoctcp ? Or how can i start running it ?? On Tue, 28 Sep 1999 14:48:44 GMT, "Lloyd AJ Wilson" <lwilson@harriscomputer.com> wrote: >Be sure that your sever is using onsoctcp. You can verify this by viewing your sqlhosts file in your $INFORMIXDIR/etc directory. It does appear that you are using the default demo_se .... which by default uses the shared memory connection protocol ... blah blah blah. This is an SE database server. Anyhow if you know that your database server is running you must change the value in your $INFORMIXDIR/etc/sqlhosts file from seipcpip to sesoctcp on the line that contains demo_se. This will allow you to make connections to your database server using the tcp protocol. Shared memory is only used on local machine use only which is specified by default in this file. You then must change the sqlexec at the end of that line to the name that you provided in your /etc/services file in this case demo_se. You will have to bounce the engine in order for this to work. By bouncing the engine I mean bring the SE database server offline and then back online again. You can try to connect once you made these modifications but I don't think it will work unless you proceed with these steps. 1. Kill the sqlexecd process (ps ax | grep sqlexecd; kill -9 <pid>) 2. Bring the server online (sqlexecd demo_se [-l <logfile>] This step will bring your SE engine online again. The square brackets are optional and are used for transaction logging. The logfile must be specified in long format (ie. /usr/informix/se.log NOT se.log to use this feature.) The demo_se is the name of the server you want to bring online. This value comes from your sqlhosts file in the first column. That should be about it.... Hope that helps...
