Re: Help - Suggestions for Data Loads in Informix tables
Posted in 1997
This seems to become the new faq. Don't people get manual any more?
For normal loading of this type there is the dbload utility. That's
the one and only tool for regular loading of data from files. (The
load statement in dbaccess and some other tools are only for the
simplest jobs.)
dbload can do a lot of things, like loading into multiple tables from
one file, pulling data togheter from different parts of each line of
the load file, inserting constant data and so on.
If this isn't enough stored procedures to further massage the data is
a good idea. Another alternative is of course a program (4GL, ESQL/C
or whatever) that can do this or it can read the data and do the
massaging before the data is inserted into the tables. This would
probably be a good option if it's a weekly job with the same data
format.
For high performance loading of large amounts of data there is also
the new ipload (I think that's what it's called) utility with version
7.2x. This seems to be able to do extensive massaging of the data. I
haven't used it yet.
