Frank,
Welcome to Informix.
The archive process is not designed (pre 6.0 anyway) to
protect you on individual tables. It's a catastrophic recovery
tool that, in combination with the OnLine logging tools,
will allow you to bring your database back up to the point of
your last crash.
If this really happened, and if you were not making other backups
with dbexport or the like to protect you in this instance, you would
have to restore from your last archive and then apply all of your
subsequent log tapes to the archive. What, you say? That would
just restore you with the deleted table still gone?
Here's where you would call Informix Support. They have a utility
that would allow them to go into your log files, null out (or change
to an innocuous command) the offending "drop table" statement, and
continue with your application of logfiles.
It's a real pain. If you can't wait for it to be fixed in 6.0, try
a product called Intelligencia. It is a backup product that allows
you to do fast row-level backups and restores for OnLIne.
