Dont know why the engine is giving "assert failure", but there is another way I
can think of by which you can do this more seamlessly. But maybe you have
already thought of this and discarded it for some reason.
Create ROLEs operator_rw, operator_ro
In the application
if time_of_day in (...updateable list of times...)
SET ROLE operator_rw
else
SET ROLE operator_ro
...do the work...
SET ROLL NULL
exit application
If you have pointy haired managers who insist on changing the updateable times
depending on the phase of the moon, you can put this in a table.

Subject: Sporadic Assert Failed DB errors on revoking of table priviledges.
Gurus:
We're currently running Informix On-line server version 7.20.UC2 to backend
a Informix 4GL based order adjustment application. During specific times
throughout the day we revoke the priviledges of a particular group of users
to have them default to the 'select only' Public level privileges. This
effectively prevents them from modifying their orders any further, but
continues to allow them to review the orders. We accomplish this "Lockout"
by running a batch SQL script via DBACCESS. About 1 out of 50 times the
script runs it brings our database down with a generic Assert Failed
message. We've tried to get assistance from Informix, but they weren't able
to give us any directiion. Has any one else has a similiar problem or have
ANY suggestions on why we're having this problem?
FYI: Informix 7.20 Assert Failed error during the revoking of table level
priviledges. The Informix Message log shows the following error
message:
-------------------------------------------------------------------
12:01:56 Assert Failed: Internal Error - Segmentation Violation

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
