Has anybody written a paper >compairing Gupta SQL Windows and NewEra. I vaguely remeber reading I did not see the original post (it may not have shown up yet on our news feed.) Two years ago, we had an evaluation copy of SQLWindows (I believe this would be the version prior to their current version) that we were never able to get working correctly. In the evaluation I did at the time, it GPF'd half the time just starting the database interface, and if if I got past that hurdle, it would GPF or hang frequently thereafter. Opening up a Quest window (their data access/painting tool), when it worked, never took less than four minutes. SQLWindows won our "GPF of the day" contest with Powerbuilder hands down. That's saying a lot. :-( At the end of the evaluation period, when it wasn't working and Gupta wasn't willing to extend the evaluation period until they got it working, we packed it up and returned it. Informix had its problems at the time (the version of Inet they had at the time was the wretched DOS TSR garbage Informix used to sell), so it's not entirely clear everything was SQLWindows' fault. Even so, SQLWindows, at the time, was clearly unsatisfactory in comparison with the other desktop tools available. I would be interested in anyone else's more recent experiences; if they're positive, we might consider re-opening the SQLWindows file. -- William Harris (Standard disclaimers) CARS Information Systems http://www.carsinfo.com/~william/ 4000 Executive Park Drive Cincinnati, OH (USA) 45241
