If Novell was never a good platform for a database (and this is so much true - memory protection is almost non-existent), they did not do it for a good reason, they simply make a bloody obvious mistake. And make a some unfortunate guys pay for it. And after 3 years, made them pay again. >All I can say is that I wouldn't expect all the old software you have >to work on new platforms (Windows 95). I am a living proof that 4GL for Windows behaves well on W95, in fact, better then on 3.x. Also, I-Net 5.01 even 16 bit, is working solid. The problem is between I-Net 5.x and 4GL, in FGLSQL.DLL, the same one that I am boring c.d.i. with for some time, without success. If he can use real mode IPX/SPX net drivers, and not Microsoft VxD, he can connect with I-Net 4.1. But, not with I-Net 5.x, because Informix has decided that they will distribute dummy DLL files to make things more exciting for the guy who obviously paid to little till now. (For details on 4GL/I-Net 5.x problem, look at my posts for a last month or so. There are so many, that You have my permission to hate me) >For a long term solution you should definitely go to Unix on the >server. And, BTW, did you try 4GL f/w on 95? Did anybody? The only problem with it is that with I-Net 5.x, if we skip the Micro$oft Windows part. One may think what one wants, but users wants Windows, not the bloody terminal emulators, end of story. >There is an option for Linux right now as well by running the SCO >version of Informix SE.
