Translating with DrWatson… this can take a few seconds the first time.
This is a genuine, complex translation. DrWatson protects commands, error codes, and log output while naturally translating the surrounding text. It’s translated once and saved.
D H needed to add a chunk with an offset to an existing dbspace on IDS 9.4 HC5, HP-UX 11.11, after the first chunk was made too small. Art Kagel said offsets start at zero, so use 100000 KB, and for a raw device reuse the device path with an offset, while a filesystem file needs a new file and zero offset. D H created a new symlink to the volume group with the proper offset. Solved.

I need to add a chunk to an existing volume group and dbspace, which already
has a smaller chunk on it. I created the first chunk, mistakenly, two small
and need to fill up the rest of the space. The first chunk has filled, so I
can't just drop it.
volume group space = 20gb
first chunk = 200mb
In onmonitor, I need to specify the offset. I tried 100001 kb, but it tells me
it needs to be a multiple of page size. Also, for the pathname, do I use the
existing link to my physical space, or create a new sym link? Here's my
existing one:
prod_image2_dbs -> /dev/vg04/rprod_image2_dbs
Do I create prod_image3_dbs -> /dev/vg04/rprod_image2_dbs? And how do I
calculate the offset?
IDS 9.4 HC5
HP-UX 11.11
Offset should be 100000 kb since offsets start with zero you do not
need to add one (1).

WHOA, stop, new question!
Is the chunk defined on a character or block device that's bigger than
the chunk was defined as or is the chunk just a smaller file in a
bigger filesystem? If the former, you would use the same device
pathname and an offset that starts the data in the device after the
existing chunk. If it's just a filesystem file, forget about offsets
and just create a new file in the filesystem and use that pathname
with an offset of zero.

Thanks again. It was a new Informix chunk going into existing raw space. I
created a new sym link to the volume group, with the proper offset and I'm
good to go.
