Help keys

This is not a request for help. I see 'help' as a three level deep function. The first is where the user wants to know what this function does: "The add function......" Easily handled by showhelp and a helpfile. The second is a: "I am in this field, what are possible values" This we have a very simple function for we test what to pass the function based on a series of IF infield() statements. The third is a: "What exactly is this field anyway?" This should read from a data dictionary somewhere and dislay ina little window. I am about to implement this third feature for an application. The pain of the matter is that I have to: CASE infield(a) infield(b) infield(c) infield(d) infield(e) infield(f) What I want from Informix is the matching function to infield() - something like whatfield() which returnd the name of the current field on the form. This would make the help window function (#2) as well as the data dictionary help function (#3) much easier to write, and more efficient than testing 20 to 30 values. As always I expect this is the part where I get told to RTFM because such a function already exists. cheers j. _____________________________________________________________________________ Jack Parker | Hewlett Packard, BSMC Boise, Idaho, USA| He who talks most, talks least. jparker@hpbs3645.boi.hp.com | _____________________________________________________________________________ Any opinions expressed herein are my own and not those of my employers. _____________________________________________________________________________
