Re: Market Share

Would you put Online and SE in the same catagory? Are they the same caliber. Less than 1/2 of Informix's shipments were of the OnLine server product; the ratio of OnLIne-to- SE shipments for Informix was approximately 40/60 in 1994. You would have to multiply the number of Online Servers shipped in 94 by 1.5 to come up the number of Oracle7 (not RDB) servers shipped. perryd@fourgen.com (Perry Dillard) wrote: >}>>>>>>>>> Perry's response to Tony Basoglu <<<<<<<<<< >This clearly has nothing to do with how many companies use >Oracle vs Sybase vs Informix. SE is basically a cheap, small database with NO Multithreaded Server Parallel Anything Transaction Logging BLOB Support Database Mirroring Distributed Features 24x7 Support Row-level Locking Replication OLAP Special Datatypes Advanced Indexing VLDB Features If you compare the cost of Oracle to SE, then yes Oracle looks more expensive. If on the other hand you compare Oracle to Online and factor in support costs and other license issues guess what - they are pretty comparable. >at license's sold, I believe you will find Informix the leader.
