Well whatever you do I'd have a test server somewhere with Solaris 10 on it. dtrace is soooo good to debug hard stuff. Wish I had it but my current job is an HP-UX shop...we don't even have truss. yeah tusc (a truss clone) is available bu not officially supported! Check out dtrace for tracking down HARD problems....
I agree with your 9.4 choice but make sure you have the absolute latest rev. Solaris 10 is reasonably stable. It has predictive self healing capabilities too - might make it easier for you. It is also faster for the most part. Dump 9, dive into 10, its a no brainer.
