Hi all, We want to upgrade the ids to 9.4 version. Could you please tell me about issues while migrating? We have two IDs engines. One is 9.21 FC3 and other is 7.31.FC2. 9.21.has OLTP and 7.31 has medium size database. OS HP UNIX 11i We also have cluster service between the two servers. I did not upgrade the 7.31.to 9.21 before, because I heard that 9.21.is not good for large queries. But Informix is telling that 9.4 is better for OLTP and large queries. So I decided to move both engines to 9.4 We have 4GL, ISQL, ESQL, power builder, visual basic, Java, .net, and shell application. We are are using stored procedures, triggers. Are there any issues with in-place migration from 7.31 FC2. to 9.4? I appreciate for your help. Rao Yalamanchili --------------------------------- Do you Yahoo!? New and Improved Yahoo! Some
hints to avoid migration issues when migration InPlace:
PHYSLOG should be plenty (minimum 200 MB, 1 GB for large systems)
LOCKS should be at least 4x(max(count(sysobjstate),count(syscolumns)))
Do oncheck -cDI before migration
Do "update statistics low drop distributions" before migration
Unregister your datablades
Stop CDR with a look at the queues which should be empty
Take a last backup (or some of different methods)
See that all Logs age backed up except the current one
Switch you engine down softly (onmode -uy, onmode -c, onmode -ky)
On HP: Do not forget to set /etc/privgroup (see release-notes)
That's a list of problems seen or heared in quite a lot of migrations.
We did migrations from several MB up to hundreds og GBs.
If you regard all of these points you should have an easy job while
migration. It's only a question of time to wait for checks and internal
conversions.
