Re: is correct to use RCPFUNC with Informix ?
Posted in 1997
Informix, as opposed to Sybase, does not allow a stored procedure to return multiple results sets. Also PowerBuilder restricts RPCFUNC to procedures returning only 1 result set, so that the RPC can be described. With Sybase, PowerBuilder parses the source SQL code of the procedure to guess the description prior to execute it, as Sybase does not describe the result sets of a procedure call. With Informix, a procedure (having only one result-set returned) has a signature which can be fully described prior to executing it. This signature is that of the RETURNING clause of the procedure. However, Informix does not allow to assign column names to the returned values, so with PowerBuilder you must assign them yourself (guess does not work, or PowerBuilder could only assign column names like ret1, ret2, ret3, ...). Also note that PowerBuilder with Informix require a new Informix Net 7.x driver, the driver for Informix Net 5.x does not work (fails to pass DATETIME and DATE values, incorrect syntax generated when handling tables, bad performance, etc...). Check the PowerBuilder Web site to have the correct driver for Informix Net 7.x Finally you must recompile your PB modules for Informix, if they were compiled for Sybase. I hope this can help you. +ACI-Ruben Gil Calvo+ACI- wrote +ADw-61lluo+ACQ-8eb+AEA-cssun.mathcs.emory.edu+AD4-... +AD4-Hello, +AD4- +AD4-We are using PowerBuilder 5.0.03 and Informix OnLine Dynamic Server +AD4-7.22 over Windows NT 4.0, and have a problem with stored +AD4-procedure calling using RPCFUNC declared as function or subroutine, +AD4-is correct to use RCPFUNC with Informix ? +AD4- +AD4-PB reporting errors like +ACI-too many returning values+ACI- with function +AD4-and +ACI-too many arguments+ACI- with subroutine. +AD4- +AD4-The declaration of RPCFUNC is valid and is used with no problems in +AD4-a Sybase SQL Anywhere enviroment, we like to migrate application to +AD4-Informix. +AD4- +AD4-Thanks, +AD4- +AD4- +AD4- +AD4-Lic.
