Re: Informix Problem - Please Help Urgently
Posted in 2005
Hi, besides password shadowing (which I think actually should not cause such problems), it can be the password encryption method that causes such a problem. Online 5 only supports the classic UNIX encryption method for passwords (as implemented in the "crypt()" system call). On Linux there are several other methods available. E.g. for some time MD5 was quite popular and configured by default. As IDS takes the password from user and encrypts it with crypt() to compare with the encrypted password (from /etc/passwd or /etc/shadow or NIS/NIS+), they will not match if the system uses a different encryption method ... Still another reason may be password expiration settings. Although these were rare circumstances and the problem should be fixed by now (or never existed in Online 5).
