Re: ONBAR backup with only 1 tape drive.

Hi,
we do not recommend such a setup. Therefore I never really tried such
thing
and can't say for sure whether or how it would work, but here are some
ideas for a start:
Probably you need to define in the storage manager that both pools
go to the same media.
Alternatively (or maybe at the same time) you may (or have to) define the
two pool names (onconfig file parameters ISM_LOG_POOL and
ISM_DATA_POOL) to be the same.
I'm not sure how the storage manager will react when two requests
(dbspace backup and log backup) come in concurrently to go onto
the same media. It may serialize or it may produce an error ...
So you may in fact have to switch to manual log backup (check your
onconfig file parameter ALARMPROGRAM) and then serialize these things
manually.
The storage manager should be able to find log and dbspace backup objects
for restore when they were backed up correctly. I don't think that this
would
be a problem.
If all this is too complicated, I would spend another tape (for that
single existing
device) and use ontape with TAPEDEV and LTAPEDEV onconfig parameters
set to the same existing device. Do continuous log backup during the day,
interrupt it and change tapes for nightly archive, then change tapes again
before
starting the continuous log backup of next day ... (Or something like
that.)
Regards,
Martin
