Determine if informix is online?

Hi All,
I was just wondering; are there any other tools to determine the informix
engine status besides onstat -? I would like to use a script to monitor our
databases. We are using the alarmprogram.sh, but I would like to check if the
database server is up and running. Are there any database ping utilities? Or
should I use a dummy query; e.g. select * from sysusers on sysmaster?
Thanks,
Regards, Bart

I'd stick with onstat -
IIRC, the select from a table could hang for a long time if the engine is
not up.

Not necessarily...
Just set INFORMIXCONRETRY and INFORMIXCONTIME to fair values...
onstat - will not work remotely... (unless you use ssh to connect to the
dbserver of course :) )

Are you implying that the default values might not be good enough? :oD
