INFORMIX >= 6.0 and AIX

Hi: I was in the process of upgrading from online 5.03 uc1 to INFORMIX 6.0 UE2 when I discovered a serious flaw with informix 6.0. To make a long problem short the 6.0 can not be tuned and no matter what we do the performance does not increase or decrease significantly. I have tried everything on it to no avail. The performance according to the reported stats given by onstat is great but when I do my own test it is way slow. It seems to me that if INFORMIX releases a newer version of their product it should be at least as fast as their previous version. I can only see this performance degradation on AIX it seems that on an HP/9000 Series 800 model G30 the performance is near or better than those of 5.03 uc1. I got INFORMIX to admit that there is a problem with their product on AIX. Even armed with this piece of information they are unwilling to do something about it. They Call it a BAD PORT but if it is so bad and they know it why stick it up to their customers. They went as far as telling me to go and replace a machine that is only 3 months old with a SMP machine. If they knew that they had bugs in their product why not fix them. In these days more and more companies are holding back releases in order to get them out to market as bug free as possible. So what if they have a limited number of small bugs but to leave a whale of a bug like that is unforgivable. If any one has a positive experience with the performance of any version >= to 6.0 in AIX uniprocessor machines I like to read about it. It will be even better if they can include a small description of their findings. This is for AIX uniprocessor machines only. I will try to summarize any non posted followups to this message. Here are some of the things I tried to make it faster. RAW vs. Cooked files Very small change in performance. PRIORITY AGING Slow slow slow sloooooooower SINGLE CPUVP no change. BUFFERS very small positive change with numbers > 2500 up to 4000 any thing else negative SHMVIRTSIZE best results with 16M SHMADD best results with 16M NUMAIOVPS up to 3 best performance anything else negative.
