IIUG Sucking Up to IBM...

Ob, I'm referring to your last paragraph. Appearances are just that. Perhaps you'd like to assist the IIUG Board and actually DO more than OPINE. Leaders are always welcome and those that actually take on responsibility and make things happen even more so. Forgive me while I go sit in the corner and hang my head in shame at your well-deserved cutting observation. Bottom line, Fred, the overwhelming majority of hands-on Informix users are deeply unhappy about the way IBM has handled the products since the acquisition, and IBM has "buried its collective head in the sand" about this, shall we say, although another term did come to mind first. Sticking up a URL with a white paper that gets updated once a year while IBM raids IDS for technology to make DB2 a viable product while pushing up the TCO for IDS but otherwise ignoring it and wishing it would just go away, doesn't seem like a fair exchange to those of us who have a misguided passion for Informix. Or me, anyway. I also think that the IIUG should be more confrontational with IBM about Informix and not just act as another marketing channel to try and sell us Websphere or Tivoli. It isn't entirely clear to me how the IIUG is representing Informix users by apparently sucking up to IBM...? You really haven't grokked the purpose of Usenet, have you? :o) On a more serious note: the IIUG really does seem to be a very US-focused operation (I know we've had the discussions about not pleasing all the people all the time... :o) It would be a hell of a challenge for me to get more involved in the IIUG. I've thought long and hard about getting more deeply involved, trust me. But it occurs to me that it's much more fun to sit here and snipe from the sidelines, primarily because I'm a lazy old fart. > Leaders are always welcome and those that actually take on responsibility > and make things happen even more so. Oh, God no. The last time I took responsibility for something, I never heard the end of it. -- "C'est pas parce qu'on n'a rien ''' dire qu'il faut fermer sa gueule" - Coluche
