RE: Here's an opportunity for Informix...

Well... I escaped from the Borg in '05 and there was a period of platform consolidation. Not sure which platformed got axed or survived. I was working on a worst case assumption that IBM canceled the Itanium port for Informix. Taking what you said at face value, then its already a no-brainer. All that has to happen is Jerry Keesee getting the ol cattle prod out and using it on IBM's Information Management Marketing Manager to convince him to create out a 'Take out Oracle on Itanium' strategy and sales contest. Unfortunately from past experience... IBM's Marketing folks in Information Management tend to have thick skins, and slow nerve receptors along with tiny brains. So they tend not to notice when they get hit with a cattle prod. However... if Jerry were to get their PBCs changed to include this challenge... well all bets are off. :-) Does that help explain it? :-) -G Date: Wed, 23 Mar 2011 22:13:52 +0000 Subject: Re: Here's an opportunity for Informix... I'm just trying to find a silver lining and an opportunity for Informix. After all, I imagine that it would be easier getting an Informix port back to Itanium than trying to port DB2 since most of DB2's distributed clients (read LUW) run on AIX. ;-) Not sure if I got you... Maybe it's my English. You say "getting an Informix port *back* to Itanium..." Informix exists and is fully supported on Itanium. So the "back" part is puzzling me... -- Fernando Nunes Portugal http://informix-technology.blogspot.com My email works... but I don't check it frequently...
