Any idea of how to trim and pad a column

Hi Everyone I am new to Informix> I did work in Oracle before. I know we have some functions for trimming and padding a column. (We have lpad, rpad, ltrim and trim funcctions to pad and trimming in Oracle). I referred to Informix7.2, it has function called TRIM. But I am working in Informix5.x. So please let me know what can be done. Thank You in advance. Saleem
