So far, we have found two problem with Workgroups 7.2 for NT: 1. There is a change in memory management between 4gl version 4 and version 6/NewEra: - 4gl version 4 (used with Online 5.x): prepare wprep from var declare cursor wcurs from wprep open wcurs fetch wcurs into ... while sqlca.sqlcode = 0 do something end while free wprep - 4gl version 6/NewEra (used with Online 7.x, Workgroups) prepare wprep from var declare cursor wcurs from wprep open wcurs fetch wcurs into ... while sqlca.sqlcode = 0 do something end while # necessary in version 6/NewEra but illegal in version 4 free wcurs # free wprep If we do not free the cursor, the used memory is not released between uses. The symptom we got was that in batch processing a program would take 15 minutes to do all the work and then would sit doing nothing for 45 minutes. 2. When we do delete's of more than a few hundred rows from a table (even a small one), the server takes a long time doing the delete. Also when testing NewEra/Informix for Workgroups against 4gl version 4/Online 5.0 on a SCO, the NewEra program's are at least 4/5 times slower than the Unix versions, wich is a problem with batch processing.
