Translating with DrWatson… this can take a few seconds the first time.
This is a genuine, complex translation. DrWatson protects commands, error codes, and log output while naturally translating the surrounding text. It’s translated once and saved.
Nuno Paquete asked how to configure NETTYPE for other connection types. Nilesh Ozarkar quoted the Administrator's Reference example with ipcshm and soctcp entries. Jonathan Leffler said IDS and XPS need only configuration, while SE and OnLine also need sqlexecd. Art S. Kagel said extra protocols require DBSERVERALIASES entries beyond DBSERVERNAME.

Hi,
here is excerpt from "IDS Administrator's Reference Guide."
-------
You can specify a NETTYPE parameter for each protocol that you want the
database server to use. The following example illustrates NETTYPE
parameters for two types of connections to the database server: a shared
memory connection for local clients, and a network connection that uses
sockets:
NETTYPE ipcshm,3,,CPU
NETTYPE soctcp,,20,NET
The NETTYPE parameter for the shared-memory connection (ipcshm) specifies
three poll threads to run in CPU virtual processors. The number of
connections is not specified, so it is set to 50. The NETTYPE parameter for
the sockets connection (soctcp) specifies that only 20 simultaneous
connections are expected for this protocol and that one poll thread
(because the number of poll threads is not specified) will run in a network
virtual processor (in this case, NET).
-------
For more details refer to NETTYPE configuration parameter in Admin guide.

Subject: Re: Configuring remote tcp connections.
Hi,
I've got this line on my $ONCONFIG file:
NETTYPE ipcshm,1,120,CPU # Configure Poll thread for nettype
I need this line. How can I define other NETTYPE values?
Can you show me an example of two distinct configurations?

Nuno Paquete

Hi,
Thanks to all of you guys. Now I just have one more question:
Do I have to install anything in the server so it can communicate using
tcp connections, or I just need to change the configuration files?
Best regards,
Nuno Paquete

IDS and XPS - just configure.
SE and OnLine - you must run sqlexecd too.

TO use multiple comm. protocols you must define a separate connection name
for each additional protocol beyond the one used by the primary servername
in the DBSERVERALIASES ONCONFIG parameter in addition to the primary name in
DBSERVERNAME.
