From $INFORMIXDIR/release/*/*/IDS_7.3:
------------------------------------------------------------------------
11. The default stack size for process may be too small. It can be
increased to at least 8 MB (8388608 Bytes). You can update the
default stack size in the kernel configuration file by setting
dflssiz 8388608
and rebuild the kernel, or increase it at the Shell level. To
increase the default stack size at the Shell level, refer to your
Shell manual.
------------------------------------------------------------------------
Of course, what it DOESN'T tell you is what error is returned if your
stack size is too small. For example, if you run onspaces, you simply
receive the error:
Memory fault(coredump)
Which doesn't tell you much about the actual problem. :-(
Setting the dflssiz kernel parameter should be part of your initial
kernel tuning before IDS is brought up. But omitting this change is not
fatal to IDS. You can set this parameter at the shell level using the
ulimit command.
If you type man ulimit, you get:
------------------------------------------------------------------------
ulimit(1) ulimit(1)
NAME
ulimit - Sets or reports a resource limit
SYNOPSIS
ulimit [-HSacdfmnstvw] [limit]
:
:
:
-s limit
[Digital] The limit parameter specifies the number of Kilobytes
for the stack area.

:
------------------------------------------------------------------------
So running:
ulimit -s 8192
Sets your stack size to 8388608 for your current session only.
