Re: How to get client information(authorization ID

There was a feature request made at the IDUG/IIUG Conference in San Jose in May to create a 'User Context' that a connection could use to change it's privs and identity specifically for use by middleware and WEB type applications to be able to restrict data access according to the user the middleware was querying on behalf of and to enable access auditing of the ultimate user at the IDS level. Don't know if the request was accepted and if so when it might show up in server releases, but that sounds like what you need. If you as a client contact IBM and submit a similar feature request along with the business need prompting it, that will go a long way to making it happen. Art S. My curiosity was to know if IBM has come up anything for this in Informix too( since DB2 has CURRENT_USER USER_ID special register which tracks this details). What I see most of IDS features/functions are being adopted in DB2 or vice versa. ******************************************************************************* Forum Note: Use "Reply" to post a response in the discussion forum.
Art, Thank you for information. I will try to find out from IBM if they have any plan for incorporating this feature. Let me know if you find any further info. on this.
Like Informix before them, IBM bases new feature request priorities on the number of customers who feel that a feature is needed. So, add your voice to the frey and make the request. Even if they're planning on doing what I remember we talked about, there were two or three users at the conference who wanted something like this and I was moderating that particular discussion to try to create a concensus and generalize the features. There were different needs being expressed, but a common core, so there's no guarantee that the particulars of the feature they develop will meet your needs if you don't pipe in by entering your own feature request.
