Translating with DrWatson… this can take a few seconds the first time.
This is a genuine, complex translation. DrWatson protects commands, error codes, and log output while naturally translating the surrounding text. It’s translated once and saved.
A poster asked what features people wanted in the next IDS after 10.00 and what Smooth Upgrade of HDR meant. Neil Truby asked for autonomics to be removed. Jonathan Leffler explained that upgrading an HDR pair means breaking the pair, upgrading both servers, a level 0 archive on the primary, restore on the secondary and resynchronizing, leaving a long gap without HDR protection.

What features do you want for the next version of IDS?
The Key Features in IDS Version 10.00 by Jerry Keesee
mentions...
- Smooth Upgrade of HDR
- Online table re-org
- Dynamic Reconfiguration
- Auto Update Stats
- Auto Disk Mgmt
- RAS
- Autonomics
a) What does Smooth Upgrade of HDR mean?
b) What else do people want as features?

The upgrade process for an HDR pair is not as simple and smooth as it
should be. Specifically, you have to: break the pair, upgrade the
servers, do a level 0 archive on the primary, recover it on the
secondary, and resynchronize. That's a long time without HDR
protection. Yes, there are a variety of other steps that should be
taken (such as a precautionary backup of the previous version, etc), but
that's the gist of the problem.
