I've seen it in the development environment here, where the compiler is NFS mounted off a server machine. The licence manager gets itself twisted up and refuses to give out licences, and the only fix we've found so far is to restart the licence manager on the licence server machine. On occasion, a second licence manager daemon has been found running -- that doesn't help either. I can tell that this is my problem when instead of getting a sustained 60-90% utilisation of the CPU on my Sparc 10, I suddenly get a peak of 40% followed by a trough of essentially 0% activity for 30 seconds or so, and systems that normally take less than an hour-and-a-half to compile don't compile in over 24 hours. This is using SUNWspro compilers: "SC3.0 15 Dec 1993" is what I get using "cc -V". Note that Phase 3 of the I4GL User Environment compilation is strictly the CC compiler -- it is not a problem in 4GL as such. Yours, Jonathan Leffler (johnl@informix.com) #include <disclaimer.h>
