SUN Prestoserve and Raw Devices: Does performance improve?

We recently bought a SUN machine with 4 MB of non-volatile Prestoserve RAM. Our intention was to speed up our primary application, which is an Informix database app using raw disk devices. In reading the man pages for Prestoserve, we noted that Sun says: "When the Prestoserve state is UP, the Prestoserve driver improves I/O performance to accelerated filesystems by caching synchronous disk write operations to the battery backed up, non-volatile memory. ... By default, all local writable filesystems listed in both /etc/vfstab and /etc/mnttab (in case something was mounted and not listed in /etc/vfstab) are accelerated when the Prestoserve board is brought up." The lack of any mention of raw disk devices has given us pause... does anyone know if we are getting any boost for writes to our raw devices? Our (very rough) test results seem to suggest we are. I'm cross-posting this to the comp.unix.Solaris newsgroup as well. Thanks. ------------rboles01@osg.eds.com---------------- Life is like a sewer: what you get out of it depends on what you put into it... T. Lehrer ------------------------------------------------
