If so, do your new clients suffer from network performance using Informix-Net instead of performing a remote telnet shell on the server ? Then you should know that Informix-Net has a cost on the network: if yo declare large datatypes like VARCHAR(255), Informix-Net transport them as 256 bytes on the network socket. Such a performance problem does not exist while using IPC or a telnet-like ASCII based connection protocol over the network. This is also a major issue if you want to access your Informix server using Informix-Net over a WAN link (such as a PPP connection over RTC or ISDN). In such a case, you may have to consider some other middleware solutions for networking.
