DBTEMP variable

Hi all!, Its been a long time since I have worked with version 5.x of Informix and seem to have forgotten how the DBTEMP variable works. Is it part of the config file or is it an environment variable? If it is an environment variable then can it be assigned a dbspace name or does it have to be a directory? Also are the implicit temporary tables going to get created in the dbspace/directory specified by the DBTEMP variable or do they always get created in rootdbs? I would appreciate any feedback on this matter. Please remember that I'm talking about Ver 5.x and not 7.x. Thanx, Bipin
