You'll have to be a bit more explicit, give examples, if this is done in pure SQL, even subscripting won't help, because this only subscripts the absolute position within a string. There are some new functions available in 7.30, check them out... but is blows me away why you want to return a character position from a SQL statement... that's assuming you're using SQL. If you are using C, then use the strchr(), otherwise in 4GL, write a routine to loop through the string until the character is found and return it's position.....
