library differences

Moving from Informix 5.0 to 7.3, I noticed that almost all libraries come in 4 different variations. For example: libifgen.a (new) libifgen.so (new) libixgen.so (new) libgen.a (same as in Informix 5.0) libifsql.a (new) libifsql.so (new) libixsql.so (new) libsql.a (same as in Informix 5.0) Could someone please explain what the infix 'if' and 'ix' above stand for ? Thanks, Thanh Sent via Deja.com http://www.deja.com/ Before you buy.
Check out the links and inodes of these files and this become a bit less cloudy. The newer names are linked to the older ones. Between the ESQL 7.24 and SDK 2.xx compilers the libraries were renamed from libix* to libif* I have no idea why. The older names are retained for backward compatibility and to break as few makefiles as possible (a vain pursuit). tqma@my-deja.com wrote: > > Moving from Informix 5.0 to 7.3, I noticed that > almost all libraries come in 4 different variations. > For example: > > libifgen.a (new) hard linked to libgen.a > libifgen.so (new) hard linked to libixgen.so and igens09a.so > libixgen.so (new) hard linked to libifgen.so and igens09a.so > libgen.a (same as in Informix 5.0) hard linked to libifgen.a > > libifsql.a (new) hard linked to libsql.a > libifsql.so (new) hard linked to libixsql.so and isqls09b.so > libixsql.so (new) hard linked to libifsql.so and isqls09b.so > libsql.a (same as in Informix 5.0) hard linked to libifsql.a > > Could someone please explain what the infix 'if' and 'ix' > above stand for ?
