I use named pipes and rsh. With this same approach you can send archives
(, logs, exported databases - with dbexport) around the network or
archive them in compressed files (and I'm sure others use the same
mechanism in bright ways I jus can't imagine :-)
Mind you, I'm on OnLine 5.x though
BTW, for the wish list, Tim:
wouldn't it be nice if tbtape (and ontape for that matter) had -t/-b/-s
flags like dbexport/import & tbunload/load, so that I don't have to stop
the engine, edit tbconfig to specify a new device, restart the engine,
archive, restop the engine, restore the original tbconfig and restart
the engine for the third time, whenever I want to archive to some other
device?
(and this could apply to ontape too...)
