Cannot Open Primary Chunk '/edat/db4v1012Dat/rootdbs'", even though the chunk files existed and were owned by informix. Replies suggested checking that every directory in ROOTPATH is traversable (execute bit) by user informix and testing the device with dd. The poster found he had set the containing directory to chmod 660 instead of 770, so informix couldn't cd into it; after fixing the permissions the server initialised and came online.

Please verify that all the directories in the rootpath are tranversable (x) by user informix. Regards. THANKS Your theory was correct. I did not have transverse rights I created the directory db4v1012Dat and ran made its owner and group informix and ran chmod 660 on it I should have done chmod 770 when I tried to cd to it as informix OS would not let me. I may have other problems but process seems to be working. Cross you fingers. Again thanks to all fro your help

Thanks for your comments. It was even a more simpler mistake on my part. I should have run chmod 770 the directory where the file was but in error I had run chmod 660 on the directory with that changed the oninit -ivy worked and SERVER is no UP Again thanks

I don;t think you realy want 770 for your permissions. What were the owner and group set to on the file? Should be informix on both.
