Find out what the correct name of your tape device is (it probably isn't
/dev/tapedev; on my machine (a Sun), it is /dev/rmt/0 -- your name will
probably be different). Then alter the tape device configuration in OnLine
to use the device (set the size correctly too) and do the backups. Note
that the ontape command you mention is a system archive, not backing up the
logical logs. You need to use 'ontape -a' to do an automatic backup of the
logical logs, or 'ontape -c' to do continuous backups of the logical logs.
Alternatively, but not really something I'd recommend, you can set the
backup device to /dev/null, *BUT* you must understand that this throws away
information that will be needed if your system crashes. If you do this,
you still need to find out the tape device and you need to do the level 0
archive, and you will need to arrange to back up your logical logs properly
just as soon as you possibly can. This will get you on the road, but
without any safety belts.
You need to get trained in OnLine Administration fast! It is not sensible
to try installing such a system without understanding what the various
configuration parameters do. For example, there's a fairly high
probability that you do not have enough log space configured for your
application, especially if you used the OnLine default settings.
