Try increasing SHMMAX, or MAXMEM, or some stuff like that. Informix also likes to use a single shared memory segment whenever it can. If your archaic system is using OnLine 5.0, then set SHMMAX high enough so your entire shared memory requirement will fit in one segment. If version 6.0+, set it so your entire virtual portion will fit in one segment, and your entire resident portion will fit in one segment.
