If it's on a XENIX system it sounds real old. Do you know what version
and/or type of informix product this is?
If not can you find the directory where that informix product is
installed and list the names of the files here? Someone will know from
that.
If you can find any file with sql in it's name in an Informix related
directory you probably have some early version of the SE database. You
should then have a program callde dbexport. If you are loged in as the
right user you should be able to export the data to flat files with
this. You create an empty directory first. Somwhere there is enough
space for the data. Then you type:
dbexport databasename
If you don't know the name of the database you should look for a
directory with a name ending in .dbs. Inside that directory there will
be a series of files ending in .dat and .idx respectively. This should
be in a directory indicated by the value of an environement variable
called DBPATH set when you log in as a normal user of the application.
The name of the database is the name of that directory with .dbs left
out.
If it isn't an SE engine it might be the old pre-sql version of
Informix databases. I no longer remember for sure how you unloaded
data from that. I seem to remember there was a program called informer
that you could at least use for the purpose. That was a command driven
program with some kind of a help command (help or ? or something like
that probably). Others might be able to help you better with these old
products.
I do hope you are moving to a new Informix database. They are the very
best arround these days.
