I'm sure it was... five months ago... before NPTL and thread-local variables in glibc monkey-wrenched them. IBM seems unwilling to support new Red Hat releases at the same level they do for new HP-UX or Solaris releases. My clients are running on RHL7.3, but I have to have a plan to migrate them before 7.3 is end-of-lifed this year. My clients would prefer moving to RHEL3.0 when it's released this month, but they may be stuck paying to migrate to RHEL2.1, and then migrating again within a year, if IBM won't be releasing 4GL tools for 3.0 until 2004Q1. An alternative to throwing good money after bad is to recode my apps in Java so that my business and my client's won't be held hostage to IBM's lethargic 4GL tools on Linux support. -- Forte International, P.O.
